Sig Sauer P938 SAS!
This is going to Mrs ORLG carry gun for when we are apart and I’ll use it when we’re together. The SAS stands for SIG Anti-Snag meaning they rounded off all of the edges to reduce snagging. Ambidextrous thumb safety allows for carrying with a round in the chamber rather than nothing in the chamber like I do in my Springfield XDM 9mm. As you can see below, it is much smaller. Will be way easier to conceal carry during the summer.
Here is a iPhone 7 for reference. Little gun for 9mm.
Also a pricey little thing but totally worth it.

I like the engraved wood handle. Don’t see those nearly enough anymore.

Not a fan of the looks, I dunno. Maybe swap out the grips for black?
Then again, what the hell do I know.

It’s one of the reasons I liked this gun. It’s a really great looking gun. I’ve always liked 1911s and it’s a mini version of one.

lol I love the wood. I love my Springfield but I’m not military so i don’t need a military looking gun.

It’s just taste right, we all have different ones! Also, don’t own any firearms so I’m not in the best camp to be passing judgement on other’s choices.
If I did buy a gun... I’ve always liked the Beretta Storm and maybe a nice over under shotgun?
That isn’t happening though. The shotgun, just cost and storage, the pistol, is a restricted weapon in Canada, need to get a different license for it.

I have an over/under upstairs. They are a lot of fun.
![]() 03/29/2018 at 17:57 |

That’s pretty nice. I’d prob’ly want composite grips so less flashy. What state do you carry in?

The XDM is designed to be carried with a chambered round too. It is drop-safe.
That being said, it’s also a full size service pistol. The Sig is going to be very much more convenient and comfortable to carry every day.

That’s positively tiny for that caliber. I’ve seen .22s larger than that. How’s the accuracy on that with such a short barrel?
![]() 03/29/2018 at 18:03 |
|
Yeah Its more of an issue of there not being a real safety to me. I have a trigger guard on my holster but the mental block is still there.
![]() 03/29/2018 at 18:05 |
|
At the ranges you’d need it for self defense, that’s probably not much of an issue.

It’s not great but most encounters are at a range of 4-7 yards anyways. Not trying to snipe or hit a 1" target so it should do its job if it absolutely has to.

Very nice! I used to have one but sold it and bought the Springfield XD-S, I preferred having more ammo and having no safety lever to remove in a dangerous situation.
![]() 03/29/2018 at 18:13 |
|
So you got the small version of my other handgun! I prefer the thumb safety and the wife and I have already practiced how to draw/disengage safety to fire. I’m going to order a Tolster for this gun and then will practice some more. Still need to see what my wifes final verdict is for her carrying needs though(purse/belt/shoulder/etc)

Very nice, classic good looks, and quality. I don’t have a carry piece and have considered going cheapish with a Guardian or the like, since I don’t like the way Glock subcompacts hold. This is interesting.

Have you looked at Ithaca Gun ? They kind of specialize in beautiful scroll work these says. When I was in College, they still did their manufacturing in Ithaca. I used to ride my bike up Gun Hill past the factory.

I have not before but I am going to now! If certain life events happen here soon I told myself I would buy an AR since I have always wanted one for target and deer hunting. Might have to pick up their fullsize 1911 though.

I like that, I’ll be looking at Sig and Springfield for my next cc. I have a Kahr CM9 and hate it as it as after around 900 rounds it still sticks.

It’s not cheap(paid $750) but I really liked the size and quality. Definitely look into it.

I absolutely love my Springfield for Winter Carry and Range practice. It’s a bit big but I knew that when I bought it. This Sig will be interesting as its size will allow me to be more liberal with how I carry it. If you don’t care about not having a thumb safety, you can’t go wrong with the Springfield XD or XDS. They are great guns to shoot. I jsut wanted that thumb safety so Sig it was.

Quality piece. I was looking at one a few weeks back, but I went the cheap route.

Generally speaking, eating polyurethane foam is not recommended.

I can understand that. I was ingrained with the idea that the trigger
is
the safety on any firearm, and not to rely on any kind of additional mechanical safety to prevent a discharge. So to me, it’s just a redundant feature. *shrug*

I don’t mind shelling out a bit more of hen I buy a gun because I buy them so rarely. Took 2 years and us both getting carry permits 6 months ago to get me to pull the trigger on it. I’ve heard good things about the rugers nonetheless

I’ve never fired an AR, but I bet it’d be fun for target practice. The biggest I ever fired was my brother’s WWI era Mk1 Enfield. Those rounds are expensive.
That 1911 is a pretty gun.
![]() 03/29/2018 at 18:42 |

Yeah, it’s decent carry piece, but no where near the build quality of a Sig. I’ll own one someday.

What holster are you using/going to use?

Tolster! Super, super comfy. Worth the $60

I feel the same way. My biggest fear is it getting snagged/etc. I’m very cautious which is better than most people it feels like.

Any round more than $0.15 a round is a lot haha

For a guy used to .22s I agree. I think these things were $5 a piece.

While my dad is a fan of the 1911 style and he has trained enough that thumbing the safety is muscle memory, my personal opinion is hat in a less than optimal situation, such as wrestling with an assailant, triggering a safety is another step im not willing to take. I love. carrying that sig though.

Pretty sure it’s illegal in most states to hunt with .223/5.56

Tennessee it is totally fine! I’d probably get a 300 Black barrel to shoot those anyways.

Check out the Sig P365. Lots of capacity for a very small gun.

It’s a tricky business finding pistols that work well for me in general. I have a large palm and moderately thick fingers that aren’t that long, so short(height) grips are bad, deep grips (along the length of the gun) are good, and wide grips are hit and miss. To illustrate, a 1911 fits really well, a Beretta 92 is too short in depth and kind of awkward, and a Glock subcompact doesn’t really work even with a mag extension unless I move my hand nearly up to the slide and pull the trigger with my middle finger.
![]() 03/30/2018 at 14:32 |

Inexpensive doesn’t necessarily mean bad. I personally think the LCP II is one of the best subcompacts on the market, even if you exclude price. You can pay three or four times the price for a Kimber pocket gun that looks immaculate, but will jam and misfeed continually unless you practice with the most expensive hollow points on the shelf. I mean, I don’t need to practice with TulAmmo or anything, but if you’re having to pay a buck per round just to PRACTICE, then the premium price tag on a firearm is well past the point of diminishing returns.

“The real safety on every firearm is between the firearm owner’s ears.” That old line?
Yeah, I love that line. 100% truth.

I see .32 ACP in stores all the time. SOMEONE is clearly buying the ammo, or they wouldn’t stock it.
I readily admit to window-shopping those North American Arms .22WMR revolvers all the time. They’re really not much smaller than my .380, which is why I haven’t “pulled the trigger (*guffaw*)“ on that particular purchase yet.
![]() 03/30/2018 at 14:57 |

They are just so handy compared to my 9mm. I haven’t started carrying it yet since I haven’t bought a holster for it.
![]() 03/30/2018 at 16:58 |

Yeah good point. Some guns are really picky about the ammo you use in them.
It’s going to be carried a lot too, so whatever I choose is going to have wear anyway. And hopefully no one ever has to see it but me.
![]() 03/30/2018 at 19:10 |

I liked the idea behind the Kimber and Sig but the kimber was a hard no after I heard about their tendency to jam.

So I’m researching holsters, which holster type would be best to avoid hurting the finish more than necessary on the Sig? I use Kudex with my Springfield but that’s a boring black gun, I havnt been too worried about it.
![]() 03/30/2018 at 20:03 |

I like leather holsters with a snap retention strap. Been carrying an SW99 for over a decade in one, and it’s been very easy on the melonite finish.

AWesome! I’ll look into that. I love my tulster but pretty fun gets pretty holster

I use the 6.8 SPC for deer hunting. IMO much better round than the .300 BO, but also harder to find ammo for. The barrels from AR15 Performance are the way to go for 6.8 SPC. ARP only sells barrels, but I’m pretty sure there are a couple places that will build you an upper using his barrels.

Nice looking Sig. I’ve got an XDS in .45 that I use for a carry pistol.

I own a used LC9S, that I personally have 200ish rounds through and its been completely flawless. Ive even been using some complete crap reloads that I got cheap from a buddy because they dont eject from anything he owns.
